The Department of Tourism is responsible for tourism policy, planning and sector development, and for promoting South Africa as a destination.
Its work covers destination development and the improvement of tourist attractions, tourism sector transformation, visitor experience and safety, and skills development for the industry. It administers the Tourism Act, 2014 (Act No. 3 of 2014), and supports the grading system that sets quality standards for accommodation and venues.
South African Tourism markets the country internationally and domestically and reports to the department, as does the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa.
