This is an independent directory of South Africa’s national sphere of government. It lists 372 entities, from national departments and constitutional bodies to public entities, universities, colleges and SETAs, with the contact details, leadership and audited financial record of each.

It is not a government website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Government of South Africa, and it does not process applications, payments or enquiries on behalf of any entity listed. Where you need to transact with an entity, use the contact details on its page to reach it directly.

What is here

Every entity in the directory has a page carrying:

• A description of what the entity does and the legislation it operates under
• Its postal and physical addresses, telephone numbers, email address and website
• The office bearers who lead it, by role
• Five years of audit outcomes as reported by the Auditor-General of South Africa
• Headline financial figures drawn from its audited statements
• Its place in the structure of government: what it reports to, and what reports to it

Search covers all 372 entities and runs against entity names and acronyms, so an entity can be found by either.

Why it exists

Information about South African public entities is scattered. It sits in annual reports, in Treasury publications, in the Auditor-General’s general reports and on hundreds of separate websites of varying quality. Finding out who runs a particular entity, how to reach it, and whether it has a clean audit record can take a considerable amount of searching.

This directory brings that into one place, in a form that is fast to search and readable on a phone.

How it is written

Every entity description on this site is original, written for this directory from enabling legislation and from each entity’s own published material. Sources are listed at the foot of each entity page. No descriptive text has been reproduced from any other directory or handbook.

Financial figures and audit outcomes are factual public records drawn from National Treasury and the Auditor-General. They are reproduced as reported, not restated or adjusted.

Accuracy

Government structures change. Departments are split and merged, entities are established and dissolved, and office bearers move. Information here is compiled from published sources and is subject to change between updates.
