Die Afrikaanse Taalmuseum en -monument is a national cultural institution in Paarl in the Western Cape, comprising the Afrikaans Language Museum and the Afrikaans Language Monument.
The museum occupies the house of Gideon Malherbe, where the Genootskap van Regte Afrikaners was founded in 1875 to promote Afrikaans as a written language. The monument, on Paarl Mountain and completed in 1975, is an architectural work whose forms represent the languages and cultures that contributed to the development of Afrikaans, including its European, African and Malay roots.
The institution’s programming addresses the multilingual origins of Afrikaans and its place among South Africa’s official languages. It reports to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
