Government Pensions Administration Agency (GPAA)

National Department · Finance and Administration Services · reports to National Treasury

The Government Pensions Administration Agency administers pension and post-retirement benefits for public servants on behalf of its clients. It operates as a government component within the National Treasury portfolio.

Its principal client is the Government Employees Pension Fund, one of the largest pension funds in Africa, for which it handles member records, contributions, benefit calculations and payments. It also administers the funds and schemes provided for under the National Treasury’s programmes, including military and special pensions, post-retirement medical subsidies, and injury on duty benefits.

The agency does not own or invest the assets it administers: investment of the Government Employees Pension Fund’s assets is carried out by the Public Investment Corporation.
