The National House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders represents traditional and Khoi-San leadership at national level. It operates under the Traditional and Khoi-San Leadership Act, 2019 (Act No. 3 of 2019).
It advises national government on matters relating to customary law, customs, traditional leadership and the traditional communities and Khoi-San communities it represents. It may advise on and comment upon any bill before Parliament that affects those communities.
Its membership is drawn from the provincial houses of traditional leaders together with Khoi-San representation, the latter introduced by the 2019 Act, which for the first time gave statutory recognition to Khoi-San leadership. It reports through the Department of Traditional Affairs.
