South African Tourism markets South Africa as a tourism destination domestically and internationally. It operates under the Tourism Act, 2014 (Act No. 3 of 2014).
It runs destination marketing campaigns in source markets abroad, maintains offices in key markets, and promotes domestic travel among South Africans. It also markets the country as a business events destination through the South Africa National Convention Bureau, which bids for international conferences and exhibitions.
It conducts tourism research and publishes arrival and spend statistics used across the sector, and it houses the Tourism Grading Council of South Africa, which awards the star grading applied to accommodation and venues. It reports to the Department of Tourism.
