Amazwi South African Museum of Literature is a national museum in Makhanda in the Eastern Cape. It was founded in 1972 as the National English Literary Museum and adopted its current name in 2019 to reflect a mandate covering literature in all South African languages.
It collects, preserves and researches South African literary heritage, holding manuscripts, correspondence, photographs, first editions and press cuttings relating to South African writers. Its collection is the most comprehensive of its kind in the country.
It runs exhibitions, supports literary research, and hosts education and outreach programmes, including work with schools during the National Arts Festival held in the town. It reports to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
