Boxing South Africa regulates professional boxing. It was established under the South African Boxing Act, 2001 (Act No. 11 of 2001).
It licenses boxers, promoters, trainers, managers, referees, judges and ringside officials, sanctions professional tournaments and title fights, and enforces the rules and safety requirements that govern them. Medical clearance and the conduct of officials fall within its oversight.
Its statutory objectives include promoting the sport, ensuring the safety and welfare of boxers, and redressing the historical imbalances of the sport in South Africa. It also administers ratings and title arrangements for national championships. It reports to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
