The Centre for Public Service Innovation identifies, supports and promotes innovation in the public sector. It operates as a government component within the public service and administration portfolio.

Its function is to unlock and replicate innovation that improves service delivery. It identifies practices developed within departments and public entities, tests and refines them, and works to have successful models adopted more widely across government.

It runs the annual Public Sector Innovation Awards, maintains a repository of replicable innovations, and supports departments in solving specific service delivery problems. It reports to the Department of Public Service and Administration.
