Freedom Park

Freedom Park is a national heritage site and memorial on Salvokop hill in Pretoria, established to commemorate those who died in the conflicts that shaped South Africa.
Its memorial elements include Isivivane, a resting place for the spirits of the fallen; S’khumbuto, which carries the Wall of Names listing those who died in the pre-colonial wars, slavery, the genocides, the South African War, the two World Wars and the liberation struggle; and //hapo, a museum whose narrative runs from the origins of humanity to the present.
It was conceived following the recommendation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission that a memorial be created, and reports to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
