Government Printing Works (GPW)

Government Printing Works is the state’s security printer and the official publisher of government notices. It operates as a government component within the Department of Home Affairs portfolio.
It prints and publishes the *Government Gazette* and the provincial gazettes, in which legislation, regulations, tenders, notices and appointments must appear to take legal effect. It is also the security printer for identity documents, passports, visas, birth and death certificates, examination papers, and similar controlled material for South Africa and for a number of other African states.
Its security printing role means it operates under strict controls over materials, plates and waste, and it holds international security printing accreditation.
