The KwaZulu-Natal Museum is a national museum in Pietermaritzburg, founded in 1904 as the Natal Government Museum.
It holds natural science and human science collections. Its natural science research covers marine invertebrates, molluscs, arachnids, insects and terrestrial vertebrates, and its collections in these fields are among the most significant in Southern Africa. Its human science work covers archaeology, rock art, history and San heritage.
It maintains reference collections used by researchers internationally, publishes the *African Invertebrates* journal, and runs public galleries and education programmes. It reports to the Department of Sport, Arts and Culture.
