Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa (Land Bank)
Public Entity · Finance and Administration Services · reports to National Treasury
The Land and Agricultural Development Bank of South Africa is a specialist agricultural development finance institution, operating under the Land and Agricultural Development Bank Act, 2002 (Act No. 15 of 2002).
It provides finance to commercial farmers, agribusinesses and emerging and development farmers, covering production credit, mortgage loans, equipment finance and wholesale finance channelled through intermediaries. Its mandate combines commercial agricultural lending with a development role in transforming the sector and supporting new entrants.
The bank defaulted on its debt in 2020, triggering a liability event across its funding base, and has since operated under a restructuring and recapitalisation programme agreed with lenders and National Treasury, to which it reports.
