National Advisory Council on Innovation (NACI)

The National Advisory Council on Innovation advises the Minister responsible for science and innovation on the role of science and technology in national development. It was established under the National Advisory Council on Innovation Act, 1997 (Act No. 55 of 1997).
It provides evidence-based advice on the national system of innovation, covering research and development investment, human capital for science and technology, innovation performance and the coordination of the science system.
It produces the South African science technology and innovation indicators, monitors national performance against comparator countries, and advises on the alignment of the science system with national priorities. It reports to the Department of Science, Technology and Innovation.
