National Housing Finance Corporation (NHFC)
Public Entity · Economic Infrastructure and Development · reports to Department of Human Settlements (DHS)
The National Housing Finance Corporation is a development finance institution for human settlements, established in 1996 to broaden access to housing finance for low and middle income households.
It provides wholesale finance to intermediaries including social housing institutions, rental housing providers, incremental housing lenders and affordable housing developers, rather than lending directly to most households. It also administers the Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme, the subsidy that assists households in the gap market, who earn too much to qualify for a free subsidised house but too little to obtain a conventional mortgage.
Government has consolidated its housing development finance institutions, bringing the NHFC, the Rural Housing Loan Fund and the National Urban Reconstruction and Housing Agency together. It reports to the Department of Human Settlements.
