Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority (PPRA)

Public Entity · Economic Infrastructure and Development · reports to Department of Human Settlements (DHS)

The Property Practitioners Regulatory Authority regulates estate agents and other property practitioners. It was established under the Property Practitioners Act, 2019 (Act No. 22 of 2019), replacing the Estate Agency Affairs Board.

It issues fidelity fund certificates, without which a property practitioner may not trade or be paid commission, and enforces standards of conduct, education and trust account management. Its scope is broader than that of its predecessor, covering bond originators, bridging financiers, property managers and business brokers alongside estate agents.

It administers the Property Practitioners Fidelity Fund, which compensates consumers for theft of trust money, and investigates complaints against practitioners. It reports to the Department of Human Settlements.
