Sentech is the state-owned signal distributor for South African broadcasters, established under the Sentech Act, 1996 (Act No. 63 of 1996). It was previously the signal distribution arm of the South African Broadcasting Corporation.
It provides broadcasting signal distribution to television and radio licensees, operating the national transmitter network that carries their content to audiences. Its services cover terrestrial television and radio, satellite distribution and content delivery.
It is central to the migration from analogue to digital terrestrial television, operating the digital transmission network that carries the migrated services. It also provides connectivity services to government sites. It reports to the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies and is licensed by ICASA.
