South African Council for Educators (SACE)

The South African Council for Educators is the professional council for educators. It operates under the South African Council for Educators Act, 2000 (Act No. 31 of 2000).
Registration with the Council is a legal precondition for employment as an educator in South Africa, in both public and independent schools. It maintains the register, sets and enforces a code of professional ethics, and exercises disciplinary jurisdiction over educator conduct.
It also manages the continuing professional teacher development system, through which educators accumulate professional development points. Its disciplinary work includes cases of misconduct against learners, and it maintains a list of educators struck from the register.
