Public Entity · Economic Infrastructure and Development · reports to Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS)
Vaal Central Water is a bulk water utility serving the Free State, the Northern Cape and parts of the North West. It operates as a water board under the Water Services Act, 1997.
It was formed by the amalgamation of Bloem Water and Sedibeng Water, consolidating bulk supply across a large area that includes Bloemfontein and the surrounding Free State, the goldfields, and towns in the Northern Cape.
It abstracts raw water largely from the Caledon and Vaal river systems, treats it and supplies it in bulk to municipalities and mines. Its service area is geographically extensive with long pipelines serving dispersed and often small settlements. It reports to the Department of Water and Sanitation.
