The FP&M SETA is the sector education and training authority for fibre processing and manufacturing, established under the Skills Development Act, 1998.
It covers thirteen subsectors grouped around natural and synthetic fibres, including clothing, textiles, footwear and leather; forestry, sawmilling, pulp and paper; wood products and furniture; and printing, packaging and publishing.
It develops the sector skills plan and funds learnerships, apprenticeships, internships and bursaries. Several of its subsectors have faced sustained pressure from imports and technological change, and its skills planning reflects the need to support both retention of existing capability and reskilling.
