National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC)

NEDLAC is South Africa’s statutory social dialogue institution. It was established under the National Economic Development and Labour Council Act, 1994 (Act No. 35 of 1994).
It brings together four constituencies: government, organised business, organised labour and organised community. All proposed labour legislation and significant socio-economic policy must be tabled at NEDLAC for consideration before it is introduced in Parliament.
It operates through chambers covering trade and industry, public finance and monetary policy, labour market, and development. Its purpose is to seek consensus on economic and social policy, and agreements reached there have shaped major labour and economic legislation, including the national minimum wage.
