North-West University is a public university operating from three campuses: Potchefstroom and Mahikeng in the North West province, and Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng. It teaches more than 70,000 students across contact and distance modes.
The university was formed by the 2004 merger of the Potchefstroom University for Christian Higher Education — an institution tracing its origins to 1869 — and the University of North-West, formerly the University of Bophuthatswana. Staff and students of Vista University’s Sebokeng campus were incorporated at the same time.
Its faculties span arts, natural sciences, theology, education sciences, economic and management sciences, law, engineering, health sciences, humanities, and information technology, distributed across the three campuses.
