The Quality Council for Trades and Occupations is the quality council for occupational qualifications. It was established under the Skills Development Act, 1998, and operates within the National Qualifications Framework.
It develops and manages the Occupational Qualifications Sub-Framework, which covers trades, occupations and professions where learning combines knowledge, practical skills and workplace experience.
It designs and registers occupational qualifications, accredits skills development providers, and quality assures external integrated summative assessment, including national trade tests for artisans. Its establishment consolidated occupational qualification setting, which had previously been distributed across the sector education and training authorities.
