Safety and Security Sector Education and Training Authority (SASSETA)
SETA · Social Services · reports to Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)
SASSETA is the sector education and training authority for safety and security, established under the Skills Development Act, 1998.
Its scope covers policing, corrections, defence, intelligence, justice, legal services and private security. It therefore serves both state institutions in the justice and protection services cluster and a large private security industry.
It develops the sector skills plan and funds learnerships, internships, bursaries and skills programmes, and accredits training providers. Private security is one of the largest employers in its scope, and much of its accreditation work concerns the training standards required for registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority.
