Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University is a public university in Ga-Rankuwa, north of Pretoria, specialising in health sciences. It was established in 2015 on the campus of the former Medical University of Southern Africa, which had been incorporated into the University of Limpopo in 2005 and was then separated again.
It is named after Sefako Mapogo Makgatho, the second president of the South African Native National Congress. It teaches medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacy, nursing and allied health sciences, and is one of the few institutions in the country offering veterinary training.
It is closely linked to the Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, which serves as its principal teaching hospital.
