South African Council for the Architectural Profession (SACAP)

The South African Council for the Architectural Profession regulates the architectural profession. It operates under the Architectural Profession Act, 2000 (Act No. 44 of 2000), and is one of the six councils coordinated by the Council for the Built Environment.
It registers professional architects, senior architectural technologists, architectural technologists and draughtspersons, each category carrying a defined scope of work. Registration is a precondition for practising in the profession.
It accredits architectural education programmes at South African universities, sets the competency standards for registration, and exercises disciplinary jurisdiction over registered persons. It also identifies work reserved for particular categories of registration.
