South African Dental Technicians Council (SADTC)

The South African Dental Technicians Council regulates dental technicians and dental laboratories. It operates under the Dental Technicians Act, 1979 (Act No. 19 of 1979).
It registers dental technicians, dental technologists and student dental technicians, and registers the dental laboratories in which they work. Dental technicians manufacture the prosthetic and orthodontic devices prescribed by dentists, including dentures, crowns, bridges and appliances.
The Council sets the education and training standards for the profession, accredits training providers, maintains the registers, and exercises disciplinary jurisdiction over registered persons and laboratories. It reports to the Department of Health.
