Transport Education Training Authority (TETA)

SETA · Social Services · reports to Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)

TETA is the sector education and training authority for transport, established under the Skills Development Act, 1998 and funded by the skills development levy.

It covers eight subsectors: aerospace, freight handling, forwarding and clearing, maritime, rail, road freight, road passenger, and taxi. Together these span the movement of goods and people across all modes.

It develops the sector skills plan and funds learnerships, apprenticeships, internships and bursaries, and accredits training providers. Its work includes professional driver training and licensing pathways, maritime and seafarer training, and support for the taxi industry, which carries the majority of South Africa’s commuters but has historically had limited formal skills development.
