The University of Venda is a public comprehensive university at Thohoyandou in Limpopo. It was established in 1982 under the former Venda homeland administration and was reincorporated into the national system after 1994.
As a comprehensive university it offers both academic degrees and vocational qualifications. Its faculties cover Agriculture, Health Sciences, Human and Social Sciences, Management Commerce and Law, Science Engineering and Agriculture, and Education.
It serves a predominantly rural catchment in the far north of the country, and its research emphasis reflects that setting, with work in rural development, indigenous knowledge systems, agriculture and environmental sciences.
