African Renaissance and International Cooperation Fund (ARF)

The African Renaissance and International Cooperation Fund provides South African development assistance to other countries, principally in Africa. It was established under the African Renaissance and International Co-operation Fund Act, 2000 (Act No. 51 of 2000).
It funds cooperation with other countries in areas including the promotion of democracy and good governance, conflict prevention and resolution, socio-economic development and integration, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and human resource development.
Its disbursements have supported election processes, peace negotiations and post-conflict reconstruction on the continent. Legislation to replace it with a South African Development Partnership Agency has been under consideration. It is administered by the Department of International Relations and Cooperation.
