The Department of International Relations and Cooperation formulates and conducts South Africa’s foreign policy and manages its relations with other states and international organisations.
It maintains South Africa’s diplomatic missions abroad, provides consular services to South Africans overseas, and coordinates the country’s participation in the United Nations, the African Union, the Southern African Development Community, BRICS and the Commonwealth. It also coordinates the international engagements of other departments so that they align with national foreign policy.
The African Renaissance and International Cooperation Fund, which supports development cooperation and peace efforts on the continent, is administered by the department.
