The EWSETA is the sector education and training authority for the energy and water sectors, established under the Skills Development Act, 1998.
Its scope covers electricity generation transmission and distribution, renewable energy, gas, nuclear, and the water and sanitation value chain including water boards and municipal water services. Both sectors are undergoing structural change, which shapes its skills planning.
It develops the sector skills plan, funds learnerships, apprenticeships, internships and bursaries, and accredits training providers. Its priorities include artisan and technician development for utilities, and building the skills base required for the energy transition, including renewable energy installation, maintenance and grid integration.
