Perishable Products Export Control Board (PPECB)

Public Entity · Economic Infrastructure and Development · reports to Department of Agriculture (DoA)

The Perishable Products Export Control Board provides quality inspection and cold chain management services for South African perishable exports. It operates under the Perishable Products Export Control Act, 1983 (Act No. 9 of 1983).

It inspects and certifies perishable products destined for export, including deciduous and citrus fruit, table grapes, vegetables, flowers, meat and dairy, verifying that consignments meet the quality standards and the phytosanitary requirements of importing countries.

It also monitors and manages the cold chain from packhouse to vessel, since temperature integrity determines whether produce arrives in marketable condition after a long sea voyage. It is an official assignee of the Department of Agriculture for export certification.
