University of Limpopo

University · Social Services · reports to Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET)

The University of Limpopo is a public university at Mankweng near Polokwane. It was formed in 2005 by merging the University of the North, known as Turfloop, with the Medical University of Southern Africa.

That merger was subsequently reversed in respect of the medical campus: in 2015 the former MEDUNSA campus was separated and established as Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University, leaving the University of Limpopo based at Turfloop.

It teaches across four faculties: Health Sciences, Humanities, Management and Law, and Science and Agriculture. The University of the North has a notable place in South African student politics, and its alumni include a number of prominent political figures.
