The University of Mpumalanga is a public university in Mbombela, established in 2014. It was one of the first two universities founded in post-apartheid South Africa, alongside Sol Plaatje University, and gave Mpumalanga its first university.
It opened with a small initial intake and has expanded its programme offering since. Teaching is organised across faculties covering Agriculture and Natural Sciences, Economics Development and Business Sciences, Education, and Social Sciences.
It operates a main campus in Mbombela and a second campus at Siyabuswa. Its academic focus reflects the province’s economy, with emphasis on agriculture, hospitality and tourism, and development studies.
