Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI)
National Department · Central Government Administration
The Department of Public Works and Infrastructure is the custodian of national government’s immovable property and the coordinator of public infrastructure delivery.
It manages the state’s land and building portfolio, provides accommodation to national departments, and maintains and disposes of state property. Through Infrastructure South Africa it coordinates the national infrastructure investment pipeline and unblocks strategic projects. It also runs the Expanded Public Works Programme, which creates work opportunities across government’s labour-intensive projects.
The Property Management Trading Entity, the Independent Development Trust, the Construction Industry Development Board and the Council for the Built Environment fall within the portfolio.
